Titus 2-3

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

In this second installment in our teaching segment on Titus we continue to see the theme of the book: truth matches with godliness and sound doctrine goes hand in hand with good works.

Titus in chapter 2 is instructed to teach sound doctrine so God subsequently describes both what is to be taught as a part of sound doctrine and what the corresponding action will be to sound doctrine. There is practical learning for every type of Christian person. We then read a most crucial biblical truth: our salvation is not dependent upon our good works, but good works is a response to what God so freely gave us in Christ.

In conclusion, it is important to remember is book is not just Paul writing to Titus, but is God speaking to us.

Triumph Over Adversity: Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

June 17, 2010

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy we see the heart of a man who has faced many of the brutal challenges that we face today. He is imprisoned, shunned, left alone, chastised, yet through all these things Paul knows where to look and what to focus on. He looks to God’s comfort, the joy of fellowship with the Church. We are shown that we are to be strong in grace; partly because of the grace we are given now and also from the grace that we are to look forward to. We are not to be ashamed of the gospel for it is life and peace unto others. In all things we are to boldly proclaim the gospel and leave the worries of this life to God our father who does everything for us.

Be ye Followers: Imitating Christ

Monday, November 30th, 2009

God bless you in the name of Jesus Christ!

Upon even a brief examination of the church epistles, it becomes crystal clear in the believer’s mind how close a unity, and how close an identification we have with Christ. As Romans proclaims, nothing shall ever separate us from his love, and a truth that parallels this is how inseparable our spiritual walks should be from Christ’s example. As believers we are not only to believe concerning his accomplishments, but we are to believe who God says we are because of those accomplishments. We are to put on the new man, which is what allows us to lead lives of bold excellence. There are many aspects to this, but at the heart of our spiritual walks is the imitation of Christ.

I Corinthians 11:1 – “Be ye followers of me (Paul), even as I also am of Christ.”

The word “follower” means to imitate, and the word imitate means “to seek to follow the example of.” This verse is an encouragement to imitate Paul, because Paul was imitating Christ. In the world, it is common to come in contact with people who are struggling, and it is often said that such people are “trying to find who they are” or are having an “identity crisis”. Every human being needs an identity, because without an understanding and belief of who you are, life becomes more of an aimless wandering than a diligent seeking. God is aware of mankind’s need for identity, and he has made a more than abundant provision to supply this prerequisite for spiritual abundance.
