Vision for the modern Christian Church

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

January 20, 2009

Acts 19 declares the wonderful movement of the Word of God in the early first century church. With a beginning of around a dozen believers the Word ends up reaching all ears in Asia, a remarkable feat and a testimate to the power and truth of God’s word. It is only thus that this chapter should serve as a modern text book on how we can grow the Church mightly. When we receive the Word we must speak it boldly and not be discuraged when people do not believe and not be surprised when people do! When we speak the word, signs will follow and all will be to the glory of God. We must also check our own hearts to see if there is anything standing in the way of having a burning relationship with the Lord. When we do these things it is possible that the Word of God will grow mightly and prevail.

Titus 1

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

In this first installment in our teaching segment on Titus we begin to examine an overall theme in the book: truth matches with godliness and sound doctrine goes hand in hand with good works.

Titus was a young minister whom Paul wrote this epistle (letter) to in approximately 63 A.D. while Titus was on the Island of Crete. In it we see Paul’s heart toward Titus, what credentials a church leader must possess and a strong endorsement to be a Bible centric people. Although at times stern, an understanding of Titus 1 is a strong foundation for those who want to serve God in the Church.

Verses:
Titus 1:1-2
John 17:3
Titus 1:3
I Corinthians 1:21 – preaching of Word seems foolish to unbelievers
Titus 1:4-7
I Corinthians 4:1-2 – stewards must be faithful
Titus 1:8-9
II Samuel 23:9-10 – Eleazar: a picture of someone clinging to “The Sword” (also see Ephesians 6:17).
Titus 1:10-15
Romans 16:19 – be wise in good and simple in evil.
Titus 1:16
Matthew 7:1,16 – (”Judge” in Greek: “krinō”)
Mathew 12:46-50 – we want our identification to be a believer.
