If we keep ourselves in the garden via meditation on God’s Word, then it is God’s job to provide us with the full measure of water to cause us to prosper spiritually. God truly is the great gardener of our lives!

Special thanks to Jan for teaching this week.

One of the great privileges and responsibilities in our Christian lives is telling people of Christ Jesus so they too can be saved. With a strong desire to speak, the next requirement is opportunity and people to speak to – an open door of utterance. Two great lesson from God’s Word is that prayer facilitates those opportunities and God has amazing power to connect those praying to share the Gospel and those lost souls longing to know God.

1 Corinthians 10:12 cautions us that “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” When we put stock in our own ability to stand in life – even if it be upon our strengths, we are setting ourselves up for failure and disappointment. Likewise, Solomon (in the book of Ecclesiastes) describes all the many places he set his affections, areas in which he excelled upon Earth, and how they all were ultimately lacking. To truly obtain meaning in life we find that all things “under the sun” come up short, but heavenly affections result in great happiness and meaning.

Verses:
1 Corinthians 10:12
1 Kings 3:12
Deuteronomy 17:14-17
Ecclesiastes 1-2:20
Philippians 3:4-8
Colossians 3:1-2

Additional Verses on Solomons Violating God’s Word (from Deuteronomy 17):
On multiplying wives to himself: 1 Kings 11:3
On multiplying horses to himself: 1 Kings 4:26
On greatly multiplying gold and silver to himself: Ecclesiastes 2:8

Reverence: An attitude, emotion, or mindset of deep respect, tinged with awe

Fear of the Lord = Reverencing God

The following are the benefits, blessings, and promises related to us having this mindset and attitude towards God:

You will be blessed (Psalm 112:1)

You will be taught by God (Psalm 25:12-14)

The secret of the Lord will be with you (Psalm 25:12-14)

Your soul will dwell at ease (Psalm 25:12-14)

Your seed will inherit the earth (Psalm 25:12-14)

God will have great goodness laid up for you (Psalm 31:19-20)

God will hide you in the secret of His presence (Psalm 31:19:20)

God will have His eyes on you, to deliver you from death and famine (Psalm 33:18-19)

The angel of the Lord will encamp around you to deliver you (Psalm 34:7-9)

There will be zero lack in your life (Psalm 34:7-9)

God’s salvation and wholeness will always be right nearby you (Psalm 85:8-9)

God’s mercy toward you will be almost infinite, from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 103:11-17)

God will have pity towards you, as a father does for a child (Psalm 103:11-17)

It is the starting point for all true knowledge (Proverbs 1:7)

It is the starting point for all true wisdom (Psalm 111:10)

God will be a help and shield to you, and He will bless you (Psalm 115:11-13)

You will be blessed (Psalm 128:1, 4)

God will fulfill your desire (Psalm 145:19)

God will hear your cry and save you (Psalm 145:19)

God will prolong your days (Proverbs 10:27)

You will be rewarded (Proverbs 13:13)

It will be your strong confidence (Proverbs 14:26-27)

It will enable you to depart (get away and stay away) from evil (Proverbs 16:6)

It tends to life (Proverbs 19:23)

You will abide satisfied (Proverbs 19:23)

You will not be visited with evil (Proverbs 19:23)

When mixed with humility, it brings riches, honor, and life (Proverbs 22:4)

When you reverence God always, you will be happy (Proverbs 28:14)

It will be well with you (Ecclesiastes 8:12)

Ecclesiastes 12:13 — Reverencing God and keeping God’s commandments is the whole of man

Psalm 147:11 — God takes pleasure in those that reverence Him.

We do our part, by reading the Word to learn and adopt this mindset of huge respect for God and His Word. Then, once we’ve done our part by reverencing God, God always does His part by fulfilling these terrific verses that have such a positive impact on any and all who live them. We reverence, then God blesses, fulfills, and upholds.

God bless,

Part 2: The Kingdom of God
Andrew McGarry

July 8, 2010

God calls us to His Kingdom, which He declares is not in word but in power. God’s kingdom is not head knowledge but in the heart and it is powerful. The Word of God comes with authority and power, the same authority and power that Christ had and it is he whom we rely on, not ourselves. This kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy to all who partake. We, therefore, would have all men partake in the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is spiritual and it is in each who are born again, those who confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead. We are no longer strangers but citizens and ambassadors; sharing the Word of God so that all may partake in the Kingdom of God and the righteousness, peace, and joy that available.

Haggai is the second shortest book in the Old Testament but is jammed packed with practical understanding for Christians today. We see that Haggai is composed of 4 messages, given to this prophet on three separate days and all of them are instructive. In reading Haggai, we learn that we need to do what God has called us to do without delay, we see the problems with dwelling in the past, the difficulties we’ll encounter by yoking ourselves together with unbelievers and our forgiving God is the same in both the Old and New Testaments.

Verses:
Haggai 1:1-2:3

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy we see the heart of a man who has faced many of the brutal challenges that we face today. He is imprisoned, shunned, left alone, chastised, yet through all these things Paul knows where to look and what to focus on. He looks to God’s comfort, the joy of fellowship with the Church. We are shown that we are to be strong in grace; partly because of the grace we are given now and also from the grace that we are to look forward to. We are not to be ashamed of the gospel for it is life and peace unto others. In all things we are to boldly proclaim the gospel and leave the worries of this life to God our father who does everything for us.
