The Ark of the Covenant – A Type for Christ

“Typology” refers to when an Old Testiment event or object is seen as a prefiguring event or aspect of Christ. A good example of something being a “type” (sometimes called a “figure”) for Christ is the Ark of the Covenant. Far from being just a historical object or a prop in “Indian Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the true Ark of the Covenant demonstrates several aspects of Christ’s accomplished work on the believer’s behalf.
In this teaching, we examine what the Ark was, what it contained, what the Mercy Seat was and what the cherubs meant. We also see how each of these aspects of the physical Ark, constructed by Moses, illustrate either something about the state of mankind or about our wonderful savior, Jesus Christ.

In Exodus 32 verse 28 we see that on the day the Law of Moses was given, 3000 people died. In Acts 2 verse 41, we see on the day the gift of holy spirit was first given about 3000 people were saved. Interesting reality in light of I Corinthians 3:6 – “…for the letter (or Law) killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”
