Acts 10 – Prayer is the Hinge to the Door of Utterance

Friday, August 20th, 2010

One of the great privileges and responsibilities in our Christian lives is telling people of Christ Jesus so they too can be saved. With a strong desire to speak, the next requirement is opportunity and people to speak to – an open door of utterance. Two great lesson from God’s Word is that prayer facilitates those opportunities and God has amazing power to connect those praying to share the Gospel and those lost souls longing to know God.

Verses:

1 Timothy 2:1-4
Colossians 4:2-3
Acts 10:1-48
Ephesians 6:18-19

Where do you set your affection?

Monday, August 16th, 2010

1 Corinthians 10:12 cautions us that “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” When we put stock in our own ability to stand in life – even if it be upon our strengths, we are setting ourselves up for failure and disappointment. Likewise, Solomon (in the book of Ecclesiastes) describes all the many places he set his affections, areas in which he excelled upon Earth, and how they all were ultimately lacking. To truly obtain meaning in life we find that all things “under the sun” come up short, but heavenly affections result in great happiness and meaning.

Verses:
1 Corinthians 10:12
1 Kings 3:12
Deuteronomy 17:14-17
Ecclesiastes 1-2:20
Philippians 3:4-8
Colossians 3:1-2

Additional Verses on Solomons Violating God’s Word (from Deuteronomy 17):
On multiplying wives to himself: 1 Kings 11:3
On multiplying horses to himself: 1 Kings 4:26
On greatly multiplying gold and silver to himself: Ecclesiastes 2:8

The Kingdom of God – Do in Power and Not in Word

Part 1: Called to Do in Power and Not in Word
Jeff Kessler

Part 2: The Kingdom of God
Andrew McGarry

July 8, 2010

God calls us to His Kingdom, which He declares is not in word but in power. God’s kingdom is not head knowledge but in the heart and it is powerful. The Word of God comes with authority and power, the same authority and power that Christ had and it is he whom we rely on, not ourselves. This kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy to all who partake. We, therefore, would have all men partake in the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is spiritual and it is in each who are born again, those who confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead. We are no longer strangers but citizens and ambassadors; sharing the Word of God so that all may partake in the Kingdom of God and the righteousness, peace, and joy that available.

Of one accord

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

August 27, 2009

In God’s great lovingkindness he set up the Church, with Christ as the head, to be a family and it brings him great joy to see that the members of that Church, us, are likeminded and having the same love, God’s love. We should be of “one accord, of one mind” as he asks us. Being likeminded and having the same love are specifically layed out and wonderful examples are given in the bible.
