Triumph Over Adversity: Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

June 17, 2010

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy we see the heart of a man who has faced many of the brutal challenges that we face today. He is imprisoned, shunned, left alone, chastised, yet through all these things Paul knows where to look and what to focus on. He looks to God’s comfort, the joy of fellowship with the Church. We are shown that we are to be strong in grace; partly because of the grace we are given now and also from the grace that we are to look forward to. We are not to be ashamed of the gospel for it is life and peace unto others. In all things we are to boldly proclaim the gospel and leave the worries of this life to God our father who does everything for us.

Speaking in Tongues

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

October 1, 2009

In 1 Corinthians 14:5 God emphatically implores all Christians to Speak in Tongues. This is a topic that has caused great confusion in the modern church though it is declared and explained very simply and clearly in the bible. Speaking in Tongues is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit given to each and every Christian who believes that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead. When man was first created he was a spiritual as well as physical being but lost that spirit by defying God’s commandments. Jesus Christ came to reinstate that spirit availability and he did. Now every Christian should Speak in Tongues as it is profitable, both to the believer and to other members of the church. It helpeth our infirmaties when “we know not what we should pray for”; it is edification to the church; it is praise and worship to God; and it provides learning and comfort for all. Lastly it is a sign for anyone who has not yet come to a full knowledge of what Jesus Christ accomplished for us.
