Be ye Followers: Imitating Christ

Monday, November 30th, 2009

God bless you in the name of Jesus Christ!

Upon even a brief examination of the church epistles, it becomes crystal clear in the believer’s mind how close a unity, and how close an identification we have with Christ. As Romans proclaims, nothing shall ever separate us from his love, and a truth that parallels this is how inseparable our spiritual walks should be from Christ’s example. As believers we are not only to believe concerning his accomplishments, but we are to believe who God says we are because of those accomplishments. We are to put on the new man, which is what allows us to lead lives of bold excellence. There are many aspects to this, but at the heart of our spiritual walks is the imitation of Christ.

I Corinthians 11:1 – “Be ye followers of me (Paul), even as I also am of Christ.”

The word “follower” means to imitate, and the word imitate means “to seek to follow the example of.” This verse is an encouragement to imitate Paul, because Paul was imitating Christ. In the world, it is common to come in contact with people who are struggling, and it is often said that such people are “trying to find who they are” or are having an “identity crisis”. Every human being needs an identity, because without an understanding and belief of who you are, life becomes more of an aimless wandering than a diligent seeking. God is aware of mankind’s need for identity, and he has made a more than abundant provision to supply this prerequisite for spiritual abundance.

God has communicates to His people through the Spirit and through His Word. God gives power to His people through the Spirit and through His Word. To receive the Spirit of God and know its power a person must know the Word of God. Actions taken on the known Word can be greatly accentuated through the power of the Holy Spirit. Certain miracles can only be accomplished through the use of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the Word of God and the Spirit of God are both equally important and synergistic in a Christian’s stand on the Word. They must be kept in balance and then a person can truly experience the full power and joy of God’s loving kindness.

Sit, Walk, Stand

God has predestinated us to be His Sons and Daughters. He has called us to be more than conquerors and has given us amazing spiritualities once we believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead. We must be aware of those realities, we must believe them and make them our own; we must sit in the love and grace that God provided us. Once we accept those realities God asks us to renew our minds and practice the wonderful instructions He lays out; Walk with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering and forebearing one another in love, endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. While we walk we should put away lying, not sin while we are angry, don’t steal, don’t give place to the devil. Finally, once we have practiced renewing our minds we will have great tools to stand in the face of the world and proclaim God’s goodness. These are some keys to having a victorious life; Sit, Walk, Stand.

Why Jesus Christ? The need for redemption

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

October 29, 2009

Jesus Christ is our savior but why does man need a savior? Because of Adam’s transgression regarding God’s commandment, man no longer had the loving relationship with God he was intended; moreover man was now subject unto the devil and unto death. God was not one to destroy, instead he worked up the plan of redemption, that through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the spilling of his blood, man’s ransom would be payed and fulfilled. Our covenant with God now is not one of flesh and works such as the law was, but now is an eternal one, based on faith wherein we are called God’s children and fellow heirs with Jesus Christ. This is the need that man has for Jesus Christ, that man may have a relationship with God and no longer be subject to the Devil.
