The Ark of the Covenant – A Type for Christ

November 1st, 2010

“Typology” refers to when an Old Testiment event or object is seen as a prefiguring event or aspect of Christ. A good example of something being a “type” (sometimes called a “figure”) for Christ is the Ark of the Covenant. Far from being just a historical object or a prop in “Indian Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the true Ark of the Covenant demonstrates several aspects of Christ’s accomplished work on the believer’s behalf.
In this teaching, we examine what the Ark was, what it contained, what the Mercy Seat was and what the cherubs meant. We also see how each of these aspects of the physical Ark, constructed by Moses, illustrate either something about the state of mankind or about our wonderful savior, Jesus Christ.

Our Search for God’s Peace

October 7th, 2010

October 7, 2010

Peace is the feeling that that comes from doing what we know is right. There are two types of peace: man’s and God’s. While man’s definition of right fluctuates and is influenced and corrupted by the Devil, God’s righteousness is permanent and unwavering. Whatever God says is right will be forever. Because God’s word and His commandments are truth we know that doing them will bring us peace. Great peace will come when we love and hold dear doing the commandments of God. We are justified by faith and we have peace with God through Jesus Christ.

Malachi 3-4

September 30th, 2010

As we conclude our study in the book of Malachi, we found two more indictments against the people’s lukewarmness:
Malachi 3:8-12 the people are depriving God’s house
Malachi 3:13-15 the people are degrading God’s work

Working through the last two chapters of Malachi, we see God set the stage for the coming Christ with a pair of prophecies about the coming Christ and coming day of the Lord. Malachi also answers the questioning children of Israel about how they are to return to God: “in tithes in offerings.” We examine the tithe and see that it is not God’s way of raising money, but rather His was of raising children. Furthermore, we see God’s response to believers when we think about and talk respectfully of God. A truly interesting/inspiring section of scripture!
